Technical Description of the GO TRIM – Sabotin Course

The race challenge starts at the Kayak Center in Solkan, right next to the Soča River. Immediately after the start, runners make a sharp right turn and cross Slovenia’s longest suspension bridge, providing a unique introduction to the course. After crossing the bridge, the route joins a well-maintained cycling path, gradually ascending and leading runners 2.9 kilometers to the Sabotin junction.

At this point, the paved surface transitions into a technically demanding singletrack, guiding runners through rocky terrain and historic caverns from World War I. The ascent to the summit is challenging, requiring solid running technique, as certain sections are steep and covered in loose rocks. Throughout the climb, runners will be rewarded with breathtaking panoramic views of the emerald-green Soča River and Sveta Gora in the background.

After approximately 2 kilometers, runners reach the Sabotin mountain lodge, where a refreshment station awaits. From there, only the final few hundred meters of climbing separate them from the highest point of the course (Sabotin, 609 m a.s.l.), offering an extraordinary panoramic view of Nova Gorica, the Italian town of Gorizia, and the vast Friuli region stretching to the Gulf of Trieste.

Next comes the undulating ridge section, where runners continue on a rocky path towards the ruins of St. Valentine’s Church, dating back to the late 14th century. This historic religious complex lies directly on the Slovenian-Italian border, symbolizing the unity of both nations and representing an important cultural and historical element of the course.

The final descent begins at the iconic stone inscription "NAŠ TITO", from where runners proceed down a technically demanding serpentine path toward the valley. After crossing the suspension bridge again, where the finish area awaits, the last few meters lead to the well-earned race finish and medal award.
